Why we built Streamline Swimming
When we talked about which sport Streamline would grow into next, swimming was always first on the list. For the past two years, Streamline Swimming has worked with college swim teams and swim families without much noise. Today we're proud to share the first iteration of its own website at swim.streamlineathletes.com.
Why swimming
In many ways, swim recruiting is similar to track and field and cross country. Results are measured, times are paramount, and at the collegiate level, conference and national scoring works almost the same way. In both sports, coaches compare a recruit's times against their roster and their conference, and the decisions come down to data and analysis. That's the work we've done for track and field athletes since 2017 (here's how data and results drive track and field recruiting), and it carries over to the pool.
The gap is the same too. Swim families come to us with the questions track families asked when we started: which programs fit my times, when coaches start recruiting, how scholarships work, and who to email first.
Swim coaches are already working with us
Since 2020, our relationships with track and field coaches have introduced us to the swim coaches in their athletic departments. Over the past two years, we've begun working hands-on with college swim teams in all three NCAA divisions and U SPORTS, and supporting swimmers and families looking for opportunities. There are already teams recruiting with us.
Our Director of Swimming
Liam Donnelly leads Streamline Swimming as Director of Swimming. Liam was the longtime head swim coach at Simon Fraser University, where Alex and I ran, and he has coached in the NCAA and NAIA, on national teams, and internationally. He knows recruiting from the coach's side, and families get that experience in every conversation. Liam shares why he took the role in his note on the swim blog.
What Streamline Swimming offers today
A free swim profile
The Streamline Swimming staff reviews every profile and reaches out when programs in its network could be a fit.
Advising
Just like we do here for track and field, Streamline Swimming offers a 60-minute Advising Session with Liam and a written Recruitment Plan, or Ongoing Advising.
Free guides
The Streamline Swimming blog is new, but you can already find guides on the following:
- Collegiate swimming recruiting timeline
- Swimming scholarships
- How to email a college swim coach
- How to match your swim times to college programs
Services for college coaches
For college programs, we provide support with recruiting, roster planning and scholarship structuring. More detail on how Streamline Swimming can help your NCAA, NAIA, U SPORTS, or junior college swim program can be found here.
What comes next
What we're most looking forward to is helping more swimmers and families find their right fit. There's a heap more information and tooling we can offer the swim community, and we'll keep adding to the site as we build more partnerships with college swim programs.
What it means for track and field
Nothing changes for track and field and cross country. Streamline Athletes is still built only for track and field and cross country athletes and the coaches who recruit them, with the same platform and the same team. Swimming has its own site, its own leadership, and its own Instagram account, @streamline_swimming.
Working in swimming will also help us grow the Streamline family of brands faster. The swim website is good news for the track and field and cross country community.
