Track & Field Recruiting | Empowering Athletes for Life Without Limits

It has barely been a year since Shea Seits started running track and field, yet she has already earned a roster spot on an NCAA Division II track and field program for next year. Having recently committed to the University of Mary, Seits’ track and field career is quickly gaining momentum. The Canadian native is no stranger to athletics and has a diverse background in sports.

"I’ve been playing hockey for probably the past five, six years. I really started doing sports later in life… I have no time for a social life. Basically, all I'm doing is my sports and everything, which I’m not complaining about—I definitely love it.”

Since starting track and field, Seits has developed a deep passion for running. Her rapid progress is impressive, especially for someone who took up the sport relatively late. In August of last year, she broke the 2:20 barrier in the 800 meters (achieving a time of 2:18) and has continued to run sub-2:20 into this indoor season—times that many athletes spend years trying to achieve. Her quick success suggests serious potential.

"I love it—I love the feeling, I love running and everything. So it's good. And even on the days that I don't want to do it, all I can think about are those moments when you feel good after achieving something you’ve worked for."

The University of Mary immediately felt like the right fit for her. Located in Bismarck, North Dakota, the university emphasizes faith and service while boasting a strong Division II track and field program.

"I was looking at other schools in the beginning, but in the end, I had a few phone calls and Google Meets with the head coach and some of the girls on the track and cross-country teams. The girls, the community—just everyone there seems very open. I also like the facilities; they host a lot of indoor meets there. But more than that, they’re very welcoming. I can already tell that when I get there, I won’t feel ostracized."

Shea Seits’ Future in NCAA Track & Field

As for her future, the sky is the limit. In just one year, she has run collegiate-level times, making it exciting to think about what she could accomplish when she begins her freshman year at the University of Mary this fall.

"I know a lot can happen in four years—it’s a long time. And to think I’ve only been running like this for the past year. I can’t even imagine how different my life will be in four years, especially being completely away from my home, my country, and my family while meeting so many new people. I’m hoping for a lot of PRs in the future. I have a lot of goals in my head—maybe some that might be unrealistic—but I believe in myself. I’ve always thought that if you believe in yourself, you can really achieve those goals.
