2022 NCAA D-I Outdoor T&F Championships: Female Athletes To Watch
The 2022 NCAA D-I Outdoor Track and Field Championships are set to run this week from June 8-11th at Hayward Field, in Eugene, Oregon! There are so many great athletes to look out for — here are just a few of the female athletes that are killing it and will be competing in a variety of events this weekend. While this list of athletes is short, just know it's only a snapshot of the powerful females in collegiate track and field right now. Is there an athlete not on our list that's on yours?
Anna Hall - University of Florida
2022 Highlights:
- 2022 USATF Combined Events Championship (Heptathlon) and 2022 NCAA Indoor Champion (Pentathlon)
- 2022 USTFCCCA Indoor First Team All-American (Pentathlon)
- Named to The Bowerman Women's Watch List
Prior:
- Three-time New Balance Nationals pentathlon champion (2017, 2018, 2019)
- 2021 SEC Indoors pentathlon champion
- 2021 SEC Outdoors heptathlon runner-up
- 2021 NCAA Indoors high jump third-place finish
Camryn Rogers - University of California, Berkeley
2022 Highlights:
- USTFCCCA First Team All-American
- Camryn set a new Canadian, Pac-12 and Cal record in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships, where she posted a mark of 24.06m (78-11.25) on her final throw to win third place and hit the fourth-farthest mark in the nation that season.
- Hammer Throw Collegiate Record - 76.46m
Prior:
- Represented Canada at the Pan American Game and won the hammer throw contest at the Canadian Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a throw of 65.41m (214-7.2).
- In 2021, at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, reached First Team All-American status after posting a personal-best weight throw of 22.08m (72-5.25). Making Camryn the Canadian U-23 record, Cal record, and fourth-best in Pac-12 history, as well as the 10th-best mark in Division I that season.
- Tokyo Olympics 5th place finish
Britton Wilson - University of Arkansas
2022 Highlights:
- SEC Outdoor Runner of the Year honors as voted upon by league coaches.
- Wilson won the SEC title in 53.75 seconds
- Wilson became the first Razorback to claim the event since Sparkle McKnight in 2013. The 400m victory was the seventh Arkansas title over the past 10 SEC Outdoor meets.
Prior:
- Set a collegiate best of 58.68 in 400m hurdles to win event at Tennessee Relays and raced in the event at 2021 SEC Outdoor Championships.
- Named 2019 USATF Virginia Athlete of the Year
- Ten-time Virginia State champion at Mills Godwin HS
Favour Ofili - Louisiana State University
2022 Highlights:
- Ofili ran an amazing time of 21.96 over 200 meters. 21.96 is a Nigerian national record and the second fastest ever in African history. Not to mention, 21.96 is a 200m collegiate record.
- SEC Outdoor 100m and 200m Champion
Prior:
- The 19-year-old, who made her international debut just four years ago at the Africa U18 and U20 championships, has made great strides in her races.
- 2021 U20 World Champion (Nigeria 4x400m Relay)
- 2019 All-African Games Champion (4×400 Meter Relay)
- 2018 Youth Olympic Champion (400 Meters)
Abby Steiner - University of Kentucky
2022 Highlights:
- Abby received the USTFCCCA Women’s Track Athlete of the Year (2022)
- 2x NCAA Indoor 200m Champion (2021, 2022)
- SEC Indoor Women’s Runner of the Year (2022)
Prior:
- First team All-American in the 60m (2020, 2022), 200m (2020, 2021, 2022) and 4x400m relay (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022).
- Collegiate, SEC and Kentucky record-holder in the and 300m (35.80).
- American, Collegiate, SEC and Kentucky record-holder in the Indoor 200m (22.09)
Katy-Ann McDonald - Louisiana State University
2022 Highlights:
- Katy-Ann won the women's invitational elite section of the 1,500 meters in 4:13.07 and 800 meters in 2:00.98 at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Cougar Stadium at Azusa Pacific University.
Prior:
- 2021 All-SEC Second Team (Outdoors)
- 2020 All-American (Indoor 800 meters)
- Katy- Ann ran career best time of 2:01.67 in the 800 meter run at the NCAA East Preliminaries to qualify for the NCAA Championships and is also the fifth fastest time in LSU history.
Katelyn Tuohy - NC State University
2022 Highlights:
- Second place finish for 5,000m race at the NCAA D-I Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, AL.
- Katelyn gained her fourth All-American honors as a collegiate athlete.
- Personal best of 4:06.84 in 1500m at the ACC Track and Field Championships.
Prior:
- Katelyn is a 3x NCAA All-American (2021 Cross Country, 2020-21 Indoor: DMR, 2020 Cross Country).
- In 2021, Katelyn recorded a 4:12.55 in the 1500m preliminaries at ACCs, the third-fastest time in NC State history.
- In 2021, she took home her first career All-AC.
Tyra Gittens - Texas A&M University, UT Austin
2022 Highlights:
- 2022 USTFCCCA First Team All-American (High Jump)
- 2022 USTFCCCA Second Team All-American (Long Jump)
- 2022 - Bowerman Watch List
Prior:
- In March of 2021, Tyra won first place for the Indoor Pentathlon - 4,746.
- In 2021, Gittens won the Texas Tech Invitational pentathlon in record fashion with 4,612 points, she set the Aggie school record and became the third best performer in collegiate history.
- 2021 USTFCCCA National Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year
- Tokyo Olympics 10th place finish (Long Jump)
Jorinde Van Klinken - Arizona State University
2022 Highlights:
- 2022 NCAA Indoor shot put champion
- 2022 Pac-12 Women's Field Athlete of the Year and 2022 Pac-12 Shot Put and Discus Champion
- 2022 The Bowerman watch list
Prior (Completed Undergrad in the Netherlands):
- Won the 2021 NCAA discus crown when she threw 65.01m/213-3 on her sixth throw of the day after sitting in second since round one. Picked up first team All-America honors in the process.
- Two-time international gold medalist in the shot put, winning the shot put title in both the U23 European Throw Cup and the European U20 Championships in 2019.
- Van Klinken has represented her country in seven tournaments since 2016 and have finished in the top-3 five times.
